Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the questions we hear most. For price ranges by job, see the cost to paint a house in Albuquerque.
YES, all estimates are completely free and typically take 1 hour from the time we arrive. We prefer to walk the project with you so we can ask specific questions about how you use the space. We can then measure and price out the job for you.
We typically begin work at 7:00am and end our day at 3:30pm but this can vary by the job or the customer needs. The crews take lunch breaks on or off site.
Our start dates can vary dramatically depending on the job. We can typically start your job within 2 weeks from the time you sign your proposal. A sooner start depends on how far the schedule is booked.
Our exterior season depends on weather. In Albuquerque and most surrounding areas it’s typically March through October. We need the surface temperature above 40°F before we can safely apply exterior paint. Summer still works if we plan around heat and monsoon pop-ups – we watch the radar, prefer earlier starts on hot days, and stop ahead of storms so fresh paint isn’t at risk. Stucco usually dries quickly after rain; wood can take longer. If moisture is too high, we wait rather than rush a coat that won’t last. Spring and early fall are when exterior calendars fill up.

Yes – basic drywall repair and texture matching are included as part of an interior painting project. Most homes have cracks around windows, near door frames, or on ceilings; our painters repair those before we paint so the finish looks clean and even. We also fill nail/screw holes and caulk along trim as part of normal prep. What’s included: small patches, hairline/stress cracks, and texture blend in the areas we’re painting. What we refer out: replacing sections of sheet rock, large holes, water-damage rebuilds, or major structural repairs we’re not set up for that scope. Ask us for recommended contractors and we can still paint once the big repair is done. On exteriors we patch and prep stucco/trim within a paint scope; rotting wood should be replaced before we coat it.
We do not install wallpaper. We can remove small sections of wallpaper and match texture. Please ask for our recommended contractors for this service.
We do not do faux finishes. Please ask for our recommended contractors for this service.

As many as you would like! We have had some homeowners pick as many as 6 colors in one room for a kids room! Most homeowners choose one main color throughout the interior and have 2 additional accent colors. Our quotes include up to 3 colors, but more can be added for a fee. Most exteriors we see have one main color and one accent color. When painting your exterior we always recommend you contact your HOA to see if you need approval prior to starting your paint job.
Our estimator can show you some popular color options but we always receommend you visit your local Sherwin Williams store to get the best color advice. Make sure you bring along some photos of your project so the experts there can help you choose a color.
We recommend waiting 24-48 hours for walls and 48 hours minimum for shelves. This gives the paint time to fully cure so your items will not stick to the new paint. It helps when you spray Endust or Pledge on a shelf before putting items on them for the first time.
Yes, this is very common, in fact its preferred. We’ll have your floors and countertops covered with plastic and it will be difficult to access certain areas of your home. We are bonded and insured and our painters work inside homes everyday without issue.
All of our work is covered under our 3-year workmanship warranty. Certain paint packages we offer have longer warranties, some as long as 10 years on the workmanship and a lifetime warranty on the paint.
Yes we take all forms of payment including cash, check, ACH, and credit cards. We also offer financing on approved credit. Joe locked payment schedule: 50% deposit before materials are ordered; remaining 50% due on completion.

While I am always hesitant to recommend anyone, I will offer names of other contractors where I have seen good results. The office has those names and numbers. Another good source is “Angie’s List” at AngiesList.com.
At Andy’s Painting Company LLC we paint homes and businesses throughout Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, and nearby communities. Our core work is residential and commercial interior painting, exterior painting, stucco coatings, cabinet painting, and exterior trim. We also handle minor drywall repair and texture matching as part of interior paint jobs, plus small wallpaper removal when it fits the project. We do not install wallpaper, do faux finishes, replace wood trim, or remodel – ask us for recommended contractors for those.
Interior: A single room like a living room or primary bedroom is often done in about 1-2 days, including prep and cleanup. Whole-house interiors take longer. Average interior is about 5-6 days (walls, ceilings, doors, trim, closets), depending on square footage, colors, repairs, and how empty the rooms are. Exterior: Timeline depends on size, surface (stucco vs. wood/trim), prep needs, and weather. Average full exterior is about 4-5 days (all prep, masking, repainting, cleanup). We’ll give you a clear schedule on your proposal once we’ve walked the house. Crews usually work about 7:00am-3:30pm.
You don’t need to do our prep work – that’s our job. A little homeowner prep helps the day go smoothly: clear small, breakable, or personal items from shelves, counters, and tabletops; take down wall decor, curtains, and anything you don’t want us handling; empty closets if we’re painting inside them; plan for floors and furniture to be covered (large furniture we typically move to the center of the room and cover); for exteriors, keep driveways/walkways clear where we’ll stage ladders and materials, and let us know about pets, gates, and HOA rules. We’ll caulk, fill nail holes, patch hairline cracks, mask, and protect surfaces once we’re on site.
We use premium paints chosen for coverage and durability in New Mexico homes – low-VOC options on interiors so odors stay mild, and UV-resistant, quality 100% acrylic exterior coatings (on stucco, applied after the cracks are patched; elastomeric goes only on flat parapet tops) so the finish holds up in high-desert sun. We offer many Sherwin-Williams levels; the most common for both interior and exterior are SuperPaint, Duration, and Emerald. For color, we always recommend visiting your local Sherwin-Williams store with photos of your project – our estimator can share popular options, but the store experts are best for final picks. When we bid, we can also walk you through sheen options for walls, trim, and cabinets.
Albuquerque’s intense sun, dry wind, and temperature swings are hard on exteriors. With solid prep and quality coatings, exteriors here commonly need a fresh paint job about every 7 to 10 years; on stucco, a premium coating system can last up to 15 years or more. South- and west-facing walls often fade or chalk sooner. Interiors last longer indoors, but kitchens, hallways, and kids’ rooms wear faster than bedrooms. A quality interior paint job can easily last 20+ years with the right product and maintenance. Longevity still depends on prep, product, sun exposure through windows, and how the surfaces are cleaned.
A standard exterior paint package in the Albuquerque area runs $1.50 to $2.00 per square foot of home, so a 2,000 sq ft house comes to about $3,000 to $4,000, depending on the condition of the surfaces. For a 2,000 sq ft home, painting the walls only runs about $3,000 to $4,000, and a full interior with walls, trim, doors, baseboards, ceilings, and closets runs about $5,000 to $6,000. All prices include paint. Those figures are approximate. The exact price follows the measurements and the prep the surfaces need. See the full breakdown of Albuquerque painting costs. We take cash, check, ACH, and credit cards, and offer financing on approved credit.
Yes. Andy’s Painting Company LLC is licensed, bonded, and insured, and our painters work in occupied homes every day.
Furniture: We handle the heavy lifting. Our crew typically moves large furniture to the center of the room and covers it and the floors. Please put away small or breakable items, wall hangings, and valuables before we arrive. Empty closets if they’re in scope. Pets: Pets are welcome in the house or yard while we work. Please keep them separated in their own gated area so they don’t step in wet paint.
Yes. Every exterior painting project starts with a thorough power wash to remove dirt and loose material, then we allow dry time before scraping, patching, masking, and paint. That’s part of how we get a finish that lasts in Albuquerque sun.
We accept cash, check, ACH, and credit cards, and we offer financing on approved credit. Payment schedule: 50% deposit before materials are ordered; remaining 50% due on completion. Exact terms are also listed on your proposal when you sign.
